Far from Charles-Émile Beullac Board of Canada-esque second effort (Horizzzons, 2003), Faux World is a strange and otherworldly mix of Indonesian instruments and atmospheric electronic music - thankfully more on the experimental tip than the dance fusion. There's nothing cute or hippy tribal here - it's the quite and erratic rhythm of a world disintegrating, not coming together. This is elegant, deep listening music that's rich with percussion, achingly haunting tones, and washes of immersive sound, emerging melodies and moments of transcendence. There's an overall sound to Faux World that can only be described as wet; it sounds humid like a jungle. An interesting, highly listenable experimental album. (LC) 3.5/5
