HANDLE WITH CREAM - Angela MacKenzie is cooking magic for your skin

Angela MacKenzie spends her days melting, stirring, whipping and pouring ingredients together like a pastry chef. Sure, you’d be tempted to taste her creations, but these goodies aren’t made to be eaten, but to be spread all over your body.

Why did you decide to start your own line of skin products?

I had been making my own products at home and was really interested in creating safe, chemical-free treats for my body and to use in the bath. When I suddenly found myself unemployed, I decided to try starting my own business doing what I love and am passionate about.

I read you learned how to make your products by trial and error; I can’t help but imagine you in your kitchen with honey, milk and oats all over yourself…

Uh… yes. Things used to get pretty messy in my kitchen. Even now that I have a workshop, I often feel like I’m up to my elbows in oils and wax!

Would you describe your products most like heirloom recipes, or chemistry miracles?

Definitely heirloom recipes. I use a lot of old basic recipes that have been around during and before the time of our grandmothers. I take the basics, and then I play to create something more personalized and current. Of course, in high school I sucked at chemistry, so maybe in that sense it’s a miracle too!

Secret beauty weapon?

Organic rose water.

Must-have for Valentine’s Day?

Coconut-Honey Dreaminess Body Scrub. It smells heavenly… like you’re in a place much warmer than Montreal in February. It’ll make your skin soft and shiny for that strapless number you were planning on wearing to dinner, or it can be shared with your Valentine for a shower pour deux.

Most romantic gesture you have ever done?

I don’t know if this is the most romantic, but putting together an intimate and classic chocolate fondue has always been a hit with my valentine.
