Fuzzy Memories - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart geek up the old Brit sound

Tired of those old and dusty ‘80s vinyls you’ve been listening to for the last 20 years or so? The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is the end-of-summer power-pop fix your old fuzzless, reverb-starved heart has been aching for.
The Brooklyn foursome hide their US hearts in styles borrowed straight from the melancholic britpop wave of the ‘80s (think Jesus and the Mary Chain joining forces with Echo and the Bunnymen), as well as not-so-subtle nods to ‘90s bands like Lush and Teenage Fanclub.

Fresh off their 2009 self-titled debut and recent 4-song EP they’ve developed since the LP, the 3 lads and a girl deliver gratifyingly quirky melodies that are sustained by a continuous stream of distortion guitars, snappy beats, breathy choruses and sunshine. Now go ride your bike to the video store and return that VHS copy of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – it’s already a day late and you can’t afford the late fees on your measly allowance.
