JUNO Award Winners of 200930 mars | Par Saskia ThibodeauTags : Musique After a tense wait and several speculations as to who would go home with one of the honourable JUNO awards this year, the winners of the All-Canadian music ceremony are announced.
The event, which took place in Vancouver on March 29th, proved to be a success. Punctuated by many laughs provided by host Russell Peters’ customary humour and a wide array of performances by Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Serena Ryder, Great Big Sea, Divine Brown and many more, was just as glamorous and entertaining as we had expected it to be.
Amongst the elected champs are Group of the Year and JUNO Fan Choice Award winner band Nickelback, who’s new album Dark Horse also caused them to walk away with the award for Best Album of the Year, Alanis Morissette with Flavors of Entanglement as Pop Album of the Year, Coldplay’s Vida la Vida as Best International Album of the Year and many more.
Several Montrealers also finished in first place, including The Stills as not only New Group of the Year but also the producers of the Alternative Album of the Year, Sam Roberts as the Artist of the Year and producer of the Rock Album of the Year, and the album Beethoven: Ideals of the French Revolution, performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, with the talented Kent Nagano at its head, for Classical Album of the Year (Large ensemble of Soloist(s) with Large Ensemble Accompaniment).
Furthermore, Warner Music Canada released The 2009 JUNO Awards compilation album on March 10th. It is a joint project between Canada’s four major music labels (EMI Music Canada, Inc., Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., Universal Canada and Warner Music Canada) and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
It’s well worth the detour so show a bit of patriotism, Canada, take a jog to your nearest record store and support your national artists!
